On May 17, Prof. Iain Gillespie, Principal of the University of Dundee, led a delegation to visit Central South University (CSU). They were received by CSU's President Li Jiancheng and Vice President Li Zhihong and the heads of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the Dundee International Institute.
The University of Dundee, founded in 1881, is a top public university based in Dundee, Scotland. It has been collaborating with CSU since 2009 in joint training and exchanges at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. The Dundee International Institute of CSU was established in 2021 and started enrollment in 2022.
The visit of Principal Gillespie and his delegation was the first visit of the presidents of CSU's foreign partner institutions after the COVID-19 pandemic. President Li Jiancheng extended a warm welcome to Principal Gillespie and his delegation and made an introduction to the scale of CSU and its academic advantages. The University of Dundee is one of the most important partners of CSU and the establishment and smooth operation of the Dundee International Institute is the result of the joint efforts of both parties, said President Li Jiancheng. CSU puts efforts into deepening cooperation with world-class universities and strives to train personnel with an international vision and global competence. CSU looks forward to more intensive cooperation in broader areas with the University of Dundee and more results for promoting friendly exchanges and cooperation in education between Hunan Province and Scotland and between China and the UK.
Principal Gillespie thanked CSU for the warm reception and gave a comprehensive introduction to the University of Dundee's history and disciplinary advantages. He hoped to carry out more extensive and intensive collaboration with CSU on the new platform of the Dundee International Institute in engineering, environment, life sciences, medicine, and dentistry, as well as international training of faculty and students, scientific research and innovation, and result commercialization, thus jointly realizing a new vision of collaboration between the two sides.
At the meeting, the two presidents reached a major consensus and signed an Agreement on Joint Student Training for the School of Architecture and Art. The agreement concerns the joint training of students at the undergraduate and master’s levels in architecture, urban and rural planning, environmental design, visual communication design, product design, and art and technology.
During the visit, Principal Gillespie and his delegation visited the CSU Science Park and the Dynamic Simulation Laboratory for Train Aerodynamic Characteristics, and met the faculty and students at the Dundee International Institute. They also visited the Hunan Provincial Department of Education.
