On May 22, Sourioudong Sundara, Vice Minister of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR, and Oudom Phonekhampheng, President of National University of Laos (NUoL), led a delegation to visit Central South University (CSU). They were received by CSU’s Vice President Guo Xueyi at the Central South University Science Park HQ.

The Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR is responsible for three major areas, namely education and instruction, science and technology research, and sports development. Vice Minister Sourioudong Sundara expressed his hope for more intensive collaboration with CSU under the guiding policy of good neighbors, good friends, good comrades, and good partners. He said that Laos is rich in metal and mineral resources and the high-speed rail built with China’s assistance is already in operation, which brings an enormous demand for professionals and technical support. Therefore, he looked forward to strengthening cooperation with CSU in mining, metallurgy, and rail transport and carrying out high-level personnel training and science and technology innovation.

Vice President Guo Xueyi said that China and Laos are connected by shared mountains and rivers and have a tradition of collaboration in education and scientific research. In the future, the two sides can refer to the international student training model that coordinates universities, enterprises, and the government, and further innovate the collaboration. CSU will take advantage of its disciplinary advantages in mining, metallurgy, and rail transport and strengthen the exchanges and studies with teachers and students from Lao universities. CSU and NUoL have drafted a preliminary collaboration agreement and will accelerate its finalization and fulfilment.

The seminar was attended by the heads of the Department of Higher Education and the Vocational Education Development Center of the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, and the heads of the Department of Scientific Research, the Graduate School, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, and the School of International Education of CSU.
