Dr. Liu Yexiang
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Expert in Nonferrous Metallurgy
Dr. Liu Yexiang, born on 1 September 1930 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, is an expert in nonferrous metallurgy, a leading figure in China’s nonferrous metallurgical discipline, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at CSU. He graduated from the Central-South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1953 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1956. From 1979 to 1982, he pursued advanced studies at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and later served as a senior visiting scholar at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, Nagoya University in Japan, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. From 1986 to 1988, he served as Vice President of the Central South University of Technology, and from 1992 to 1994, as Party Secretary and President. He was elected an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997. Throughout his career, Dr. Liu has focused on nonferrous metallurgy, particularly energy-saving technologies in light metals, aluminium electrolysis, and electrochemical metallurgy.
Biography

Dr. Liu Yexiang was born on 1 September 1930 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, with ancestral roots in Wuchang.

From January 1950 to January 1952, he studied in the Department of Mining and Metallurgy at Wuhan University, and from January 1952 to January 1953, he continued his studies in the Department of Metallurgy at the Central-South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (now the School of Metallurgical Science and Engineering at CSU), earning his bachelor’s degree.

From January 1953 to January 1985, he worked in the institute’s Department of Metallurgy.

He became a member of the Communist Party of China in January 1956.

From January 1979 to January 1982, Dr. Liu conducted research as a visiting scholar at the Industrial Electrochemistry Institute of the Norwegian Institute of Technology.

From January 1984 to January 1986, he served as Chair of the Department of Metallurgy.

From January 1986 to January 1988, he served as Vice President of the Central South University of Technology (now CSU).

From January 1988 to January 1992, he served as Party Secretary of the university and from January 1992 to January 1994, he served concurrently as Party Secretary and President.

In 1997, Dr. Liu was elected an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

In March 2016, he was appointed Chief Scientist of Hunan Yonker Environmental Protection Co., Ltd
