Dr. Liu Baochen
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Expert in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Rock Rheology, and Experimental Rock Mechanics
Dr. Liu Baochen (20 July 1932 – 21 June 2017), a native of Kaiyuan, Liaoning Province, was an expert in mining engineering, a pioneer of China’s random media theory and its applications, and a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at CSU. He graduated from the Northeast Institute of Technology in 1956 and obtained his Doctor of Technical Sciences degree from the University of Mining & Metallurgy, AGH, in Kraków, Poland, in 1962. He was elected a Foreign Academician of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1994 and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997. Dr. Liu passed away in Changsha on 21 June 2017 at the age of 85. Over the course of his career, he devoted himself to research in mining engineering and geotechnical engineering, with a particular focus on rock rheology and experimental rock mechanics.
