Chai Liyuan, male, was born in September 1966. He is a CPC member, master, doctor, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and professor. He served as the Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee and the Dean of the School of Metallurgy and Environment, and now serves as the Member of Standing Committee of CPC Committee and the Vice President of Central South University.

Major research areas: Non-ferrous metallurgical and environmental engineering, and theory and technology of prevention and control of heavy metal pollution.

He received such honors and titles as the distinguished professor of “Chang Jiang Scholars Program” (2011), recipient of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars (2009), scientific and technological innovation leading talent of the “Ten Thousand Talents Program” (2013), the national candidate of the “Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent Program” (2015), the head of the national college Huang Danian-style teacher team and the innovative research group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Director of National Engineering Research Center for Control & Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution. As the first accomplisher, he has won 2 second prizes of the State Technological Innovation Award, 1 second prize of the State Science and Technology Advancement Award, 8 first prizes of the provincial and ministerial-level science and technology award, and Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award for Industrial Innovation. He has published more than 300 SCI papers, been granted 130 national invention patents, and formulated 10 national standards, policies and specifications. He has received such honorary titles as “National Advanced Worker” and “Ethical Role Model of Hunan Province”.

He was elected as the deputy to the 19th CPC National Congress.

He presides over development and planning, “Double First-Class” construction, assets and laboratory, alumni affairs and foundation.
