
Dr. Xiang Xiong (male, born in February 1963) is the professor and doctoral tutor of Central South University, professor of Changjiang Scholar Award Scheme, national candidate of New Century Talents Project, director of the key areas innovation team for Ministry of Science and Technology, enjoys the State Council Government special allowance. Major social work, there are the material subject review group member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council Government, material department member of the Committee of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education, executive directors of China Powder Metallurgy Association and Powder metallurgy strategic alliance, director of the Hunan new materials international development, tribology branch member of the Chinese Institute of Mechanical Engineering, powder metallurgy branch director of China Mechanical Engineering Institute, and so on.
His research work focuses on the basic theory and engineering application of new powder metallurgy materials, powder metallurgy friction materials, carbon/carbon composites, carbon/ceramic matrix composite materials in aerospace fields. He is the principal investigator of national major scientific research projects, such as the national "973" project (Chief scientist), national "863" project, international cooperation project of the Ministry of science and technology, and so on. 25 national patents were authorized, more than 100 technical papers were published in well-known international journals and one monograph was published. His research “Manufacturing of high performance carbon/carbon composites for aircraft brakes” was awarded as National Award for Technological Invention (First Class), “Manufacturing of high performance powder metallurgy friction materials” was awarded as National Award for Technological Invention (Second Class), and other researches were awarded four times as Provincial and Ministerial Award for Science and Technology Progress (First Class). He was also awarded as Youth Science & Technology Award of Hunan, Cross Century Talents Project of the Department of Education, China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award, China Youth Science and Technology Award, and so on. He has made important academic contribution in the field of aviation and aerospace, which has promoted the development of new materials for aerospace applications.
