On September 7-11, a delegation, led by Vice President Guo Xueyi and consisting of relevant personnel from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, the School of Metallurgy and Environment and the School of International Education, participated in the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF). During the Forum, the delegation carried out in-depth exchanges with local departments, universities and Chinese companies in Indonesia on the topics of talent cultivation, scientific research cooperation and technological innovation.
Guo Xueyi delivered a speech on the topic of “sustainable growth supported by technology and talent development” at ISF. He introduced the three-party master’s program in metallurgical engineering jointly developed by Central South University (CSU), Indonesia Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs (ICMMIA) and GEM Co., Ltd (GEM), showcasing CSU’s practical actions in developing engineering and technical talents for Indonesia and supporting the country’s sustainable development.
In 2019, CSU, ICMMIA and GEM signed an agreement to jointly run two master's programs to educate 52 high-level talents in metallurgical engineering for Indonesia. The third program will begin this year. Guo Xueyi exchanged views with Firman Hidayat, Deputy Minister of ICMMIA, Professor Satryo, Senior Advisor, ICMMIA, and Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM, and reached a consensus on continuing the three-party cooperation in the master's program in metallurgical engineering. The cooperation and exchange meeting was also attended by the Hunan Province delegation led by Governor Mao Weiming, who praised the three-party cooperation as a successful example of joint education between China and Indonesia.
The delegation also visited University of Indonesia (UI) and Bandung Institute of Technology (BIT), two top universities in Indonesia, and carried out discussions with the university leaders, heads of functional departments and heads of faculties and schools. They exchanged views on talent cultivation, scientific research cooperation and academic exchanges, and reached the intention to renew the memorandum of cooperation with UI, and signed the memorandum of cooperation with BIT.
At the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park in Indonesia, the delegation visited the workshops and laboratories of Chinese companies such as GEM, QMB, Tsingshan and Puqing, visited the Indonesian graduates of the first three-party joint education program, and conducted extensive and in-depth discussions on the development of metallurgical talents and technological innovation with the executives of the above companies.
During the visit, the delegation visited the alumni of CSU in Indonesia and discussed the plan of establishing the Southeast Asia Alumni Association.
