2023 marks the 60th anniversary of China's dispatch of foreign aid medical teams and the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's proposal to build a community with a shared future for humanity and the Belt and Road Initiative. Central South University actively responds to the national initiative and has a long history of medical aid and cooperation with African countries. In 1963, the first foreign aid medical team dispatched to Algeria included an obstetrician and gynecologist from Xiangya. Since 1973, Central South University has sent nearly a hundred medical team members to assist Sierra Leone. Since 2023, Central South University's Third Xiangya Hospital and the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital have initiated a cooperative project under the mechanism of the National Health Commission's paired hospital cooperation, assisting in the construction of "One Center (Telemedicine Center)" and "Three Specialties (Cardiovascular Internal Medicine, Otolaryngology, and Ophthalmology)." The delegation from Central South University will use this visit as an opportunity to further strengthen research and innovation cooperation between China and Sierra Leone, deepen medical and cultural exchanges, promote the improvement of Sierra Leone's medical treatment level, and contribute more to deepening Sino-African cooperation and building a community with a shared future for humanity.
