On 6 May local time in Sierra Leone, Sierra Leone-aiding medical team of the 2nd Xiangya Hospital visited the remote mountainous area of Bo, 300km from the medical team’s station for a one-day free treatment, and donated medicine and living materials to local clinics and children.
The free treatment was carried out at a public clinic. The locals there, due to the long distance to the capital city of Freetown, where better medical facilities are served, are almost separated from effective treatment; being informed of the arrival of the medical team, they waited on the site.
At present, Sierra Leone is in a period when dry and rainy seasons alternate with high possibility of malaria. Chen Xinrui, a doctor from the laboratory department, examined all suspected patients, and administered systematic medications to those who are diagnosed by a clinical doctor. Liang Jun and other doctors from the department of infectious diseases also provided awareness presentations on mosquito prevention and malaria control.
A boy with acute cellulitis of his left eyelid was in need of 3-day transfusion. Liu Yaomiao, a nurse of the medical team, performed skin test, venous transfusion and venous indwelling needle, and taught head nurse Princess how to treat the boy.
The free treatment was applauded by the local medical staff and residents. The medical staff of the local clinic expressed their hope to work for the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital rebuilt by the China-aided medical team, and the local residents gave their sincere thanks to China!
