Application Guide for International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship 2020 in Central South University 

For the purpose of cultivating qualified International Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (CIH) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship. Outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers recommended by Confucius Classrooms, certain HSK test centers, Chinese language (education) departments of foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language instruction of other countries, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (collectively“recommending institutions”) are warmly welcomed to study Chinese language and related majors in Central South University.

I.Scholarship Types and Qualifications

For One-Academic-Year Study

The program commences in September 2020, and provides scholarship for a maximum of 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

i.Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese Philosophy, etc

Minimum score of 180 on HSK (level 4), 60 on HSKK (Intermediate level)

ii.Chinese Language Study

Minimum score of 210 on HSK (level 3),priority is given to who has an HSKK test score

For One-Semester Study

The program commences either in September 2020 or March 2021, and provides scholarship of a maximum of 5 months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

i. Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese Philosophy, etc.

Minimum score of 180 on HSK (level 3),an HSKK test score is required

II.Scholarship Coverage and Criteria

The scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, on-campus accommodation, living allowance (monthly stipend of 2500 RMB for one-academic-year study students per person and one-semester study students per person) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses (800 RMB annually for one-academic-year study students per person, 400 RMB for one-semester study students per person).

III.Eligibility

All applicants shall be :

i. non-Chinese citizens;

ii. in good physical and mental conditions, and with good academic performance and conduct;

iii. committed to the Chinese language education and related work;

iv. between the ages of 16 and 35 (as of September 1st, 2020). Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45.

IV. Application Deadline ( Beijing Time)

For programs commencing in September, student application must complete before May 10th; recommending institutions and host institutions must complete review before May 20th;

For programs commencing in March 2021, student application must complete before November 10th; recommending institutions and host institutions must complete review before November 20th;

All the hard copies of the application materials are requested to be submitted to office 214 of International Education College before June 15th, 2020;

Confucius Institute Headquarters will entrust an expert panel to review the applications. Decisions will be made based on HSK and HSKK scores and levels, and in consideration of country distribution as well as other factors. The results will be published about three months before school starts.

V.Application Procedures

i.Step one: Online Registration on International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship Application Website

Online registration is available from now on the International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship application website (cis.chinese.cn). Please log on to search for recommending institutions and host institutions (Central South University); upload application materials online; and track the application progress, comments and result. Scholarship holders need to confirm with CSU to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the scholarship certificate online, and register at CSU on the designated date as per the letter of admission.

ii.Step two: Online Registration on CSU Application Website

Log in CSU China International Student Service System and register online: http://application.csu.edu.cn/member/login.do . Choose Central South University Scholarship for International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute Scholarship) and fill in the application form, upload application materials online and submit them.

iii.Pay the Review Fee and Mail Hard Copies of Material to CSU

After you have finished step one and two, pay the review fee of 500RMB (90 USD) to the designated account and prepare the following hard copies of materials IN DUPLICATE in the following order. Incomplete materials will not be accepted.

a)A scanned copy of passport photo page;

b)A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity);

c)A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions;

d)Printed Application form downloaded on CSU China International Student Service System with applicants’ name signed on it;

e)Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China;

f)Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Check. Applicants should strictly be examined in accordance with the requirement of Foreigners Physical Examination Sheet. Incomplete form is regarded as invalid. The examination date shall be after January 1, 2020;

g)Photocopy of Highest graduation certificate (or notarized photocopy). If the applicant is currently a student, the pre-graduation certificate issued by school is required;

h)Transcript of the highest diploma (or notarized photocopy);

i)Non-criminal record with an official stamp. The issue date shall be after January 1, 2020;

j)Certificate of Scholarship for International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute Scholarship);

k)The photocopy of a remittance bill for evaluation fee RMB 500 or USD 90.

iv.Complete the Application and Wait for Results

The admission letter and JW 202 form will generally be sent by end of July. Please keep yourself informed by checking the Application Status on the International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship application website (cis.chinese.cn).

VI.Admission

a) Applicants shall register on time according to theAdmission Letter;

b)Those who fail to register on time, fail to pass the health assessment, drop out midway and/or suspended from school will be deprived of their scholarship;

c)Interviews (through skype, phone call or wechat etc.) and other support materials might be required in certain occasions;

d)The evaluation fee will not be refunded and materials above mentioned will not be returned regardless of the admission result.

VII.Chinese Bridge Award Recipient Policies

Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2020 Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate shall log onto the International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship website and submit documents to relevant host institutions (CSU) upon presentation of their scholarship certificates.
