Recently, a research team led by Professor Chen Xiang and Professor Yin Mingzhu from the Dermatology Department of Xiangya Hospital of CSU has published an article titled “Characteristics of Pregnant COVID-19 Patients with Liver Injury” on the top liver magazine, Journal of Hepatology. The first author of this article is Postdoctor Deng Guangtong, and the corresponding authors include Professor Chen Xiang, Professor Yin Mingzhu and others. Xiangya Hospital serves as the first author and the first corresponding institution. Xiangya’s Dermatology Department is home to the Hunan Key Laboratory of Skin Cancer and Psoriasis and the Hunan Engineering Research Center of Skin Health and Disease.
According to this article, liver injury caused by COVID-19 is rarely shown among patients of childbearing age. Through cooperation with Wuhan Union Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the team led by Professor Chen Xiang and Professor Yin Mingzhu has found that the incidence rate of liver injury in pregnant COVID-19 patients is much higher than that of non-pregnant COVID-19 patients of childbearing age, reaching 29.7%. The team has also found that the degree of liver injury is significantly positively correlated with patients’ inflammation-related indicators. The research results indicate that it is quite essential to actively monitor pregnant COVID-19 patients’ liver injury for disease evaluation.
The team led by Professor Chen Xiang and Professor Yin Mingzhu has long been devoted to researching multi-omics-based molecular classification and personalized medicine for (skin) diseases and vigorously promoting the integration and communication between multiple disciplines. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, this team has been actively participating in analyzing individual differences of COVID-19 patients and studying the coping strategies for prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
