On the morning of June 25, it is learned from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) that the clinical skills training center of the 2ndXiangya Hospital of CSU has passed SSH’s dual certifications of Teaching/Education and System Integration, becoming China’s first medical simulation center to pass these two certifications simultaneously.
As the largest and most authoritative medical simulation education society around the globe, SSH has been committed to using simulation to promote and improve the clinic, teaching, practice and research among interdisciplinary majors, with the aim of elevating the level of medical simulation teaching around the globe, promoting the development of simulation teaching and improving the quality of clinical medicine, doctor evaluation and patient safety. It is responsible for the formulation and certification of evaluation standards concerning medical simulation training center system and its teaching staff. In 2010, it launched the global medical simulation education training assessment certification program to promote high-quality medical simulation education, with a view of improving the quality of clinical medical teaching and patient safety. SSH’s certification system consists of four certification models, namely, temporary certification, full qualification certification, interim supplementary certification and continued certification.
The 2ndXiangya Hospital applied for the most demanding and strict full qualification certification, which includes a mandatory area (Core Standards) and 1-3 optional areas (Assessment, Research and Teaching/Education). Only by passing this certification can it apply for Systems Integration. The entire assessment certification process consists of two major parts, namely document review and on-site evaluation. Since the inception of the SSH certification project in August 2016, CSU and the hospital have convened a large number of course directors, off-job teachers and student assistants to discuss and collate application materials, and maintained in close cooperation with experts from the Yale University, the Peter Winter Institute for Simulation, Education and Research (WISER) of the University of Pittsburgh and the Pan Asia Simulation Society in Healthcare. The team of all personnel from the center and clinical part-time course directors worked together to complete the preparation and collation of the English written materials for 32 checklists under 13 assessment items concerning application as required by SSH, and submitted the paper document to SSH in December 2017. These material has been highly commended by the SSH evaluation team. On May 14, 2018, SSH dispatched evaluation experts to the 2ndXiangya Hospital for on-site inspection. The expert judges praised the center’s efforts for the training of mentor team, operation mechanism and hospital management.
The head of the center said that SSH certification provides them with a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the status and development trend of the hospital’s clinical skills training center. He said that he was impressed by SSH’s spirit of seeking truth, being rigorous, scientific and meticulous. He also said that all the personnel of the center will follow the principle of “today’s simulation for healthcare safety in the future”, and work harder to pass the remaining certifications of Assessment and Research in accordance with SSH’s standards and requirements.
