The latest data of Essential Science Indicators (ESI) of Clarivate Analytics (the former Intellectual Property & Science Business of Thomson Reuters) updated on Jan. 11, 2018 (Beijing time) reveals that Geosciences of Central South University (CSU) enters for the first time the global top 1% disciplines listed in ESI. So far, the number of disciplines of CSU that have been listed in ESI global top 1% reaches 14, improving the ranking of CSU among the universities under “Double First-Class” construction in China from the 14th to the 12th.
After this data update, the time period for article search in the database is Jan. 1, 2007 – Oct. 31, 2017. Statistics shows that CSU Geosciences published totally 894 ESI papers during this time period which have been cited 5,815 times, ranking the 633rd among 642 research institutions whose geosciences discipline has entered global top 1%. According to the analysis of historical data, CSU Geosciences has developed rapidly in recent years, with the increment in the number of citation times being 1247 (estimated), and become the 22nd discipline listed in ESI global top 1% in China.
On the whole, the number of ESI papers of CSU has increased to 32,262 and citation times to 277,136, with the citation number per paper reaching 8.59, improving the ESI ranking (by total citation times) of CSU among 5,701 institutions listed in ESI global top 1% from the 451st in Nov. 2017 to the 443rd.
