The International Conference on Computer-Aided Design and Graphics 2017 (CAD/Graphics 2017) and Asian Conference on Design and Digital Engineering 2017 (ACDDE 2017), sponsored by China Computer Federation (CCF) and organized by the School of Information Science and Engineering of Central South University, was held in Hunan between August 23rd and 27th. The conference was co-chaired by Bao Hujun, director of CCF’s professional committee of CAD and graphics and professor at Zhejiang University, Professor Joaquim A Jorge, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Computers and Graphics, and Wang Wenping, professor at the University of Hong Kong. The conference’s program committee was co-chaired by Liu Ligang, professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, Dinesh Manocha, professor at the University of North Carolina, and Xu Kai, professor at the National University of Defense Technology. The organization committee was co-chaired by Zou Beiji, professor at the Central South University, Lu Rongbo, professor at Jishou University, and Professor Li Jianfeng at Jishou University.
The conference was attended by a total of 260 representatives, including 84 foreign representatives. CAD/Graphics2017 received 196 effective papers from Chinese and foreign applicants, out of which 57 papers were included in the electronic proceedings, including 34 articles published on Computer and Graphics (SCI-indexed journal), 12 articles published on Journal of Computer Science and Technology and 11 articles published on Chinese Journal of Electron. ACDDE 2017 received 71 effective papers from Chinese and foreign applicants, out of which 29 papers were included in the electronic proceedings, including 14 articles published on Journal of Computational Design and Engineering, 8 articles published on Applied Mathematics-A Journal of Chinese Universities (Series B) and 7 articles published on Journal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing. Based on evaluation and authors’ presentations, chairmen of the program committee and special workshops selected 7 best papers, including 3 papers from CAD/Graphics2017 and 4 papers from ACDDE 2017. Meanwhile, a paper was selected by CAD/Graphics2017 as the best poster.
Four special guests were invited to made presentations at the conference. Hao (Richard) Zhang, professor at Simon Fraser University of Canada, delivered a speech entitled “Can Machines Learn to Generate 3D Shapes?”; Matti Pietikäinen, professor at the University of Oulu of Finland, delivered a speech entitled “Face Analysis for Affective Computing”; Ladislav Kavan, professor at the University of Utah of USA, delivered a speech entitled “Fast Physics-Based Simulation of Anatomical Models”; Gregory F. Welch, professor at the University of Central Florida of USA, delivered a speech entitled “Awareness and Influence of Human Surrogates in Augmented Reality”. 127 parallel paper sessions on 22 cutting-edge technologies such as “3D printing and custom design”, “image processing” and “computational design and optimization” were concurrently carried out at four venues.
