From June 10 to 17, Vice President He Xuhui led a delegation of Central South University (CSU) to Canada and the United States, visiting Western University in Canada, the University at Buffalo in the United States and the Philadelphia Office of Clarivate, and holding discussions with local young scholars and alumni representatives. The visit focused on practical engagement in talent cultivation, research collaboration, academic dissemination and talent recruitment, further expanding CSU’s international cooperation channels and deepening its high-level open cooperation.
At the Western University in Canada, the delegation held exchanges with Professor Ken Coley, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the Western University and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and others on deepening inter-university cooperation. Based on their respective educational features, disciplinary strengths and international cooperation foundations, the two sides conducted in-depth discussions on talent cultivation and research collaboration in fields such as civil engineering, electronic and information engineering and environmental engineering, and exchanged views on further expanding cooperation space and advancing the implementation of relevant cooperation. During the visit, the delegation toured the university’s WindEEE Laboratory to learn about its platform development and research progress in wind engineering, extreme wind environment simulation and interdisciplinary research.
Meet with Representatives from the Western University
At the University at Buffalo in the United States, the delegation held practical exchanges with Professor Christopher Connor, Vice Provost, and Professor John Wood, Senior Assistant Vice Provost for International Cooperation, and others on deepening inter-university cooperation. The two sides focused on in-depth discussions regarding multi-level joint student training at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels, international research project collaboration, joint educational programs and faculty-student exchanges, and reached positive consensus on further improving cooperation mechanisms and enhancing cooperation effectiveness.
At the Philadelphia Office of Clarivate, the delegation exchanged views with relevant heads of Clarivate on the high-quality development of scientific journals and the building of international academic dissemination capacity. Combining the development trends of international academic publishing and research evaluation systems, the two sides focused on exchanging views on journal evaluation systems, database development, digital publishing and dissemination, AI-empowered journal publishing and dissemination, enhancement of academic influence and international publicity, providing new ideas for CSU to further advance the high-quality development of scientific journals and improve the effectiveness of international academic dissemination.
During the visit, the delegation also held discussions with young scholars, students and alumni representatives from the University of Toronto and Western University in Canada, as well as the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. Vice President He introduced CSU’s development achievements in recent years in disciplinary development, research innovation, talent cultivation and international cooperation, and exchanged views on the CSU’s talent recruitment policies and support measures for young talents, sincerely inviting outstanding overseas young talents to pay attention to and choose CSU, and achieve common development in serving national strategic needs and promoting high-level scientific and technological innovation.
