From June 14 to 18, An Shi, Secretary of CPC Committee of Central South University (CSU), led a delegation to the United Kingdom, visiting the University of York and the University of Dundee. The delegation attended the inauguration ceremony of the CSU UK Alumni Association and held discussions with local young scholars. The visit aimed to leverage high-level Sino-foreign cooperative education as a fulcrum, deeply engage with world-class academic resources, and build a global higher education partnership network featuring “joint talent cultivation, collaborative research advancement and shared development”.
At the University of York, Secretary An held talks with Charlie Jeffery, Vice-Chancellor and President, University of York. The two sides jointly signed theAgreement on the Cooperative Establishment of York International College by Central South University and the University of York. The agreement specifies that the two sides will carry out integrated medical training at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels in eight programs including biomedical engineering. By introducing high-quality educational resources from the University of York and integrating CSU’s deep foundations in medicine and health sciences, the two sides will jointly build a high-caliber cooperative college with advanced educational concepts, teaching models and management experience, cultivating high-quality biomedical and health science professionals with an international perspective, innovative spirit and practical capabilities, to serve the national health cause and regional socioeconomic development. The two sides expressed the hope to use the institution as a starting point for long-term cooperation, gradually expand cooperative disciplinary fields, and explore diversified cooperation in research tackling, enterprise engagement and student internships. During the visit, the delegation also toured laboratories including the York Biomedical Research Institute, learning in detail about its research and student cultivation achievements in medical-engineering interdisciplinary fields.
At the University of Dundee, Secretary An held talks with Nigel Seaton, Interim Principal and Vice-Chancellor of University of Dundee, and signed theLetter of Intent between Central South University and the University of Dundee on Adding Programs to the Dundee International College,proposing to add programs in business, environmental science and forensic medicine, enrich the disciplinary system of CSU’s Dundee International Institute and further broaden and deepen the cooperation . Since its approval in 2021 and enrollment in 2022, the Dundee International Institute has enrolled four cohorts of students, with the first cohort of graduates mainly pursuing further studies at top 100 global universities and domestic “Double First-Class” universities. The two sides expressed the hope to build on the solid educational foundation, further explore in-depth cooperation in research innovation and other areas, and advance cooperation toward broader fields and higher levels with more fruitful results.
During the visit, the delegation attended the inauguration ceremony of the CSU UK Alumni Association. Secretary An noted that he was sincerely impressed by how alumni, though in a foreign land, support one another and have each achieved success. In a world undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, CSU alumni should consciously shoulder the responsibility of spreading Chinese culture and voices, uphold the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, and contribute to promoting common development. CSU will continue to strengthen its capacity for education, so that alumni can take pride in being CSU graduates.
The delegation also held discussions with young scholars in the United Kingdom, introducing CSU’s development achievements and talent recruitment policies, and sincerely inviting young talents to join CSU and pursue common development.
