Recently, Vice President Li Zhihong led a delegation of Central South University (CSU) to Finland and Switzerland, visiting Metso Corporation and Aalto University in Finland, the University of Helsinki, the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Switzerland, to advance university-enterprise, inter-university and international health cooperation.

At Metso Corporation, the delegation held talks with relevant corporate executives and signed a Memorandum of Understanding, reaching cooperation consensus on green mining, intelligent metallurgy and joint talent cultivation. The signing of the MOU was witnessed by Juha Niemi, Deputy Director General, Department for Asia and Oceania, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Milla Ovaska, Head of International Affairs, City of Espoo, and Mao Zhaohui, Deputy Secretary-General of People’s Government of Hunan Province.

CSU Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Metso Corporation

At the University of Helsinki, Vice President Li held talks with the university’s Vice Rector Kai Nordlund and Chancellor Kaarle Hämeri. Based on existing cooperation, the two sides identified the medical-engineering interdisciplinary project between the School of Computer Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki (Meilahti Campus) as an entry point for cooperation, advancing master’s and doctoral visiting programs and researcher exchanges. During the visit, the delegation also toured the Faculty of Medicine and related laboratories.

At the WHO Headquarters in Switzerland, Vice President Li met with Dévora Kestel, Acting Director, Department of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health, WHO. Building on the existing cooperation of the WHO Collaborating Center at the Second Xiangya Hospital, the two sides held detailed discussions on the annual cooperation plan, preparations for the Changsha expert meeting and expert secondment, reaching consensus on signing a letter of intent for cooperation to deepen collaboration in global mental health, addiction prevention and control, and public health development in the Western Pacific Region.

During the visit, the delegation also visited Aalto University and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, met with Professor Carl-Henrik Heldin, Chairman of the Board of the Nobel Foundation, and overseas academicians, and held forums for young Chinese scholars in Finland and Switzerland, attracting overseas intellectual resources to support CSU’s talent recruitment and disciplinary development.

Leaders and faculty of the Graduate School, the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Xiangya School of Medicine, Xiangya School of Public Health and the Second Xiangya Hospital accompanied the delegation.
