From March 17 to 20, President Li Jiancheng led a delegation of Central South University (CSU) to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) upon invitation, attending the International Talent Forum of the Global Talent Summit. The delegation met with relevant government departments, universities and research institutions to discuss deepened cooperation with Hong Kong universities, promotion of two-way talent exchange and exploration of establishing research institutions in Hong Kong.
During the Global Talent Summit, President Li held in-depth exchanges with Ho Kai-ming, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the Government of the HKSAR. The two sides agreed to further leverage Hong Kong’s unique advantages as an international talent hub, advance cooperation in talent recruitment and cultivation, platform co-building and employment of graduates in Hong Kong, and support CSU’s development into a world-class university, Hong Kong’s prosperity and the broader national development agenda.
At the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), President Li visited the Von Neumann Institute and learned about its achievements in embodied intelligence, generative AI, advanced supercomputing and interdisciplinary collaboration. He exchanged views with Nancy Y. IP, President of HKUST, and Yike GUO, Provost of HKUST, on joint student training, faculty development and research collaboration in artificial intelligence, medical-engineering integration and sustainable development. The two sides agreed to expedite the implementation of relevant cooperation projects.

During the visit, President Li also visited the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau of the Government of the HKSAR and the Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies, Hong Kong (SYSU-IAS). He held practical discussions with Dong SUN, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, and other officials on talent recruitment, scientific research, platform building, enterprise engagement and industry-academia-research collaboration concerning the establishment of a high-level research institution in Hong Kong. He also learned about pathways for establishment and directions of policy support.

While in Hong Kong, President Li also visited CSU Hong Kong Alumni Association, meeting with more than 70 alumni including Xuemin Cai, President of CSU Hong Kong Alumni Association, Zexiang LI, Professor of HKUST, and Dr. Morgan Yang, Principal of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction, as well as Tang Kai, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Hunan Sunshine Holdings Limited. President Li briefed attendees on CSU’s recent development. He stated that consolidating alumni strength in the Greater Bay Area is not only a key lever for CSU to expand its educational footprint, attract talent and advance research commercialization, but also a responsibility in serving China’s regional development strategy and contributing to building China’s strength in science and technology. He hoped alumni would continue to serve as bridges, actively pool resources and promote deeper cooperation between their alma mater and Hong Kong in talent cultivation and scientific research, thereby supporting CSU’s development as a world-class university and regional socio-economic progress.
