From October 23 to 27, President Li Jiancheng headed a CSU delegation on a visit to the United States. The itinerary included visits to the University of California, Riverside; the California Institute of Technology; Stanford University; and the University of California, Berkeley, as well as courtesy visits to the Chinese Consulates-General in Los Angeles and San Francisco. During the visit, the delegation attended the inauguration of the CSU Alumni Association in the United States and engaged in exchanges with overseas young scholars.
At the University of California, Riverside, President Li met with President Jack Hu, with both sides agreeing to strengthen cooperation in research areas such as medicine, life sciences, and environmental sciences, as well as to advance scholar exchanges and short-term undergraduate study programs.

At the California Institute of Technology, the two universities noted their strong alignment in disciplinary strengths and the translation of research outcomes, and expressed interest in further expanding faculty and student exchanges, scholar collaboration, and pathways linking research outcomes to application.

During the visit to Stanford University, President Li and the delegation engaged with Stanford Medicine on cooperation under the Stanford-Asia Medical Foundation program, joint training of medical students, and scholar exchanges. The delegation also toured laboratories in artificial intelligence and robotics and held in-depth discussions with Oussama Khatib, Director of the Stanford Robotics Lab and a tenured professor, on robot motion and force control, huma-robot interaction, and related physical and cognitive skills, with a view to promoting integrated research cooperation.

At the University of California, Berkeley, the two sides exchanged views on cooperation in medical education and research and reached initial consensus on joint master’s programs in public health and short-term undergraduate study initiatives.

During the visit, President Li and the delegation exchanged views with Guo Shaochun, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles, Zhang Jianmin, Consul General in San Francisco, and other officials on enhancing cooperation with U.S. universities and research institutions, and on further strengthening China-U.S. educational and people-to-people exchanges. The delegation also met with over 20 young scholars from prominent U.S. universities and research institutions at an Overseas Young Scholars Exchange Forum, where CSU’s talent policies were introduced.

At the inauguration ceremony of the CSU Alumni Association in the United States, President Li expressed his gratitude to alumni for their significant contributions to the university’s development. He highlighted CSU’s commitment to supporting alumni career development worldwide through strengthened connections and dedicated platforms, and encouraged alumni to serve as bridges in promoting cooperation between CSU and U.S. universities and research institutions, advancing China-U.S. friendship, and contributing to bilateral exchanges in education, research, culture, and trade. Alumni representatives stated that President Li’s visit demonstrated the university’s deep care for its overseas alumni, and pledged to take the establishment of the alumni association as a starting point to support alumni development, contribute to CSU’s growth, and promote China-U.S. academic exchanges.
