On November 24, Central South University (CSU) welcomed an international alumnus back to campus, Li Jianmin, Lao Director of the Confucius Institute at the National University of Laos (NUOL).
At a symposium held during the visit, Zhan Lihua, Dean of the School of International Education, extended a warm welcome and introduced CSU’s growing Lao student community.which now numbers nearly 40 students across disciplines such as transportation engineering, business administration, and electrical engineering.She noted that NUOL, as the largest and leading higher education institution in Laos, has cultivated generations of highly qualified, internationally minded professionals, and expressed interest in further expanding collaboration in student training, short-term language programs, and volunteer exchanges.
Reflecting on his years of study at CSU, Li Jianmin briefed attendees on recent progress at the Confucius Institute of NUOL.He stated his intention to leverage the institute as a bridge to further strengthen cooperation and deepen educational exchanges between the two universities.
A 2003 bachelor’s graduate in Computer Science and Technology and a 2006 master’s graduate in International Economics and Trade from CSU, Li Jianmin has dedicated his career to educational cooperation. After joining NUOL, he has worked in international exchange and collaboration, playing an active role in strengthening ties between Chinese and Lao higher education institutions. His long-standing contributions have earned him wide recognition, including the Outstanding Labor Award and the Friendship Medal presented by the President of Laos, as well as more than ten honors from the Lao Ministry of Education.Since assuming the role of Lao Director of the Confucius Institute at NUOL in 2020, Li has led the institute to a global milestone, becoming the first Confucius Institute worldwide to independently offer an undergraduate degree program in Chinese language teacher education.
