On the morning of June 21, Central South University (CSU) held the 2024 Graduation Ceremony for International Students and Commendation Conference for Outstanding Students in B214 Auditorium of the CHINALCO Science and Technology Building on the new campus. The ceremony was attended by Li Zhihong, Vice President of CSU, leaders of the Student Work Department, the Undergraduate School, the Graduate School, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Xiangya School of Medicine, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Traffic & Transportation Engineering, CSU Alumni Association, and the School of International Education, as well as representatives of international students and faculty members. They celebrated the graduation of international students.
During his speech, Wang Wanlin, Dean of the School of International Education, extended his warm congratulations to the international students on their graduation and the start of their new journey. He acknowledged the outstanding achievements of student representatives who had excelled in various fields, such as scientific research, social practice, student affairs, and voluntary services. He wished each graduate a bright future and a successful career, and ready to write excellent new chapters as they embarked on the new journey.
Huang Zhiping, Vice Dean of the Graduate School, read out the 2024 Degree Conferral List of International Students. Supervisor representatives in attendance turned the tassels for graduates with degrees conferred, and issued degree certificates. Yin Gang, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, declared the decision to confer awards to Outstanding International Students, International Graduates of Honor, and Outstanding International Peer Support Team Members. He also announced the appointment of an alumni liaison. Following the announcement, guests in attendance presented the awards to representatives of the award-winning students and handed over the appointment letter to the liaison.
Sheng Li, a postgraduate student studying Stomatology, and Baig, a doctoral student majoring in Traffic & Transportation Engineering, delivered speeches as representatives of international graduates. They shared stories of their academic and personal journeys at CSU, and expressed their determination to continue self-improvement and make a positive impact on the world, leveraging the knowledge and skills acquired during their time at CSU.
Li Xuejun, representative of the faculty members and Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, extended his best wishes to the graduates. He emphasized three core values — “Excellence,” “Inclusiveness,” and “Original Aspiration.” Specifically, he encouraged the students to maintain an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and pursue their passions. Li Xuejun hoped that they remain open to new ideas and things. Besides, he urged them to stay enthusiastic about learning, take responsibility for society, and utilize their knowledge to serve the community and mankind.
Li Zhihong extended his heartfelt congratulations to all graduates, and encouraged them to uphold CSU's motto—"Create Knowledge and Serve Society," by collaborating with others, sharing their expertise, and applying their knowledge to make a meaningful impact. He hoped international students to take on responsibility for advancing the development of society and scientific and technological innovation with their knowledge. Besides, he encouraged them to be well prepared for opportunities and challenges that may encounter in the future. Li Zhihong also expected each graduate to cultivate a global perspective, serve as a bridge between China and their home country, and connect the world. He envisioned them building a community with a shared future for mankind and creating a brighter future for the planet.
