Li Zhihong Leads Delegation to Visit Universities and Institutions in Turkey and Egypt

Li Zhihong, Vice President of Central South University (CSU), led a delegation to Turkey and Egypt from June 9 to 16. The itinerary included visits to Okan University, Istanbul University, the Turkish Chinese Friendship Foundation in Turkey, and the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, as well as Ain Shams University in Egypt. The purpose of this trip was to boost the practical cooperation between CSU and overseas universities and institutions.

On June 10, Li Zhihong and his delegation visited Okan University in Turkey, where they held discussions with Gökçe Tunç, Vice-Chancellor of the university, exploring the potential for enhancing exchanges of views and mutual learning between the two universities in the fields of humanities and medicine. They also discussed the establishment of mechanisms that promise to facilitate academic exchanges, scientific and research cooperation, and talent cultivation between the two sides.

On June 11, a delegation led by Li Dianxun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, visited Turkey. Accompanying them on a visit to Istanbul University were Li Zhihong and his colleagues. During the visit, Li Zhihong signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yahya Güldiken, Vice Rector of Istanbul University, in the presence of Li Dianxun and Osman Bülent Zulfiçar, Rector of Istanbul University. As outlined in the MoU, the two parties will collaborate to advance in-depth cooperation in the domain of medicine, collectively elevate medical education standards, and reinforce collaboration and exchanges in scientific research and innovation. Additionally, the delegation visited the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University, where they deliberated on potential avenues for bilateral cooperation in Chinese cultural studies, Chinese language education, and other humanities disciplines.

On June 12, Li Zhihong and his entourage, together with the delegation from the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, met with Hassan Çapan, President of the Turkish Chinese Friendship Foundation, in the hope of fostering collaboration and exchanges between CSU and Turkish universities in the fields of humanities, medicine, and other disciplines.

On June 13, Li Zhihong and his delegation visited the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, where they held discussions with Dr. Ola Khyr Allah, Director of the Training and Research Department, and Dr. Amira, Head of the Director's Office and Head of Training, about sending Egyptian doctors to train at the affiliated hospitals of CSU. Following these discussions, the two parties reached a preliminary agreement on cooperation.

On the same day, Li Zhihong and his delegation met with the heads of the International Relations Office, the Faculty of Al-Alsun, the Faculty of Transportation, and the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University. They engaged in in-depth discussions about the potential for collaboration in the fields of humanities, transportation, medicine, and other disciplines. The following day, they visited Ain Shams University Hospital. The two parties agreed to proceed with the implementation of specific cooperation projects, in accordance with the MoU signed between the two universities in 2022. This will serve to reinvigorate the promising prospect of a China-Egypt community with a shared future.

During the trip, Li Zhihong and his delegation also visited the Chinese Consulate-General in Istanbul (Turkey) and the Chinese Embassy in Egypt. They met with Consul General Wei Xiaodong and Minister-Counselor Lu Chunsheng and had thorough discussions on a wide range of topics, including talent recruitment, study visits to China, and exchanges between universities and colleges.

The visit was accompanied by relevant department heads and faculty members from the Humanities and Social Sciences Division, the School of Humanities, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Traffic & Transportation Engineering, and the Xiangya School of Medicine.
