According to the China Center for International Science and Technology Exchange, the internationally renowned academic website Research.com released a ranking of the world's best scientists based on the D-index (discipline H-index) scholar ranking index. In the field of economics and finance, 42 Chinese scholars were selected into the list, including Wang Shouyang, Zhang Xiaobo, Qian Yingyi, Lin Yifu, and Professor Wen Fenghua from the Department of Finance, Business School, Central South University.

Focusing on financial risk management, Professor Wen Fenghua has studied the systemic risks brought by the internal connection in China's financial system and various external shocks. He has published a large number of academic papers in domestic and foreign journals such as Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, Risk Analysis, and Journal of Management Science. Among them, more than 100 papers have been indexed by SSCI/SCI, and dozens of papers have been listed among the discipline’s top 1% highly cited papers or the discipline’s top 0.1% hot papers by ESI (essential scientific indicator) of Web of Science. He has also chaired/co-chaired 1 key project and 5 general (youth) projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and chaired 11 provincial and ministerial level projects such as the Hunan Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund. He has won a number of provincial and ministerial level awards such as the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award by the Ministry of Education and the second prize of the Natural Science Award of Hunan Province. Wen Fenghua is the first economic and financial expert in Hunan Province who has been selected into this list.
