Recently, a delegation led by Yan Miao, Director of the International Joint Research Center for Precision Medical Technology Transformation and Software Services in Hunan Province and Chief Pharmacist of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University (CSU), was invited to visit the Karolinska Institute (KI) in Sweden.
The delegation first visited the Swedish National Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), accompanied by Professor Zhang Cheng, a Chinese scientist at KI. SciLifeLab is Sweden’s national resource of unique technologies and expertise, closely intertwined with researchers in areas such as biomedicine, ecology and evolution. It brings scientists together across traditional boundaries and foster collaborations with industry, healthcare, public research organizations and international partners.
Yan Miao had in-depth exchanges with Professor Volker Lauschke, a distinguished scientist at KI. Professor Volker Lauschke's research areas include microphysiological 3D tissue models, complex disease studies, liver disease models, liver regeneration models, and the effects of rare genetic variants on liver metabolism and drug response. Yan Miao introduced to Professor Volker Lauschke the research results of the CSU Second Xiangya Hospital team in safe and precise medication. Through the discussions, the two sides further deepened their friendship, especially in exploring various cooperation models in the fields of basic research and talent cultivation.
Yan Miao and his team also shared the latest status of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) in Asia with Professor Staffan Rosenborg from the Division of Clinical Pharmacology of Karolinska University Hospital (KUH), and discussed the latest progress in international clinical trials of innovative drugs. As the newly elected Education Director of the International Association for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology (IATDMCT), Yan Miao also exchanged information with the former Education Director Staffan Rosenborg on the global education management of TDM and CT. After the meeting, Yan Miao and his team visited KUH’s TDM laboratory and Phase I clinical research wards and discussed cooperation between the two sides in international multi-center research.
Founded in 1810, KI is one of the world’s top ten outstanding institutions in the medical field. It undertakes 43% of the academic medical research in Sweden, and its affiliated hospital ranks sixth in the world.
