From November 26 to December 6, at the invitation of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Professor Hao Wei from the Department of Psychiatry at the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University (CSU) and the National Center for Mental Disorders visited institutions under the HHS system, including the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the US Food and Drug Administration. He also had effective professional communication with academic organizations including the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and the US Department of State’s Office of Drug Demand Reduction Programs had face-to-face exchanges with Professor Hao Wei, and had in-depth exchanges and discussions on drug governance of the two sides.

During his visit to US, Hao Wei communicated and exchanged views with US experts on the current status, challenges and response strategies of both sides in drug governance, and introduced China’s major achievements in drug governance. In addition, the two sides communicated and exchanged strategies and methods in reducing drug demand and harm, as well as new ideas, programs and products for drug treatment. Professor Hao Wei introduced some of the latest scientific and technological achievements, treatment methods and means, and clinical researches in drug rehabilitation treatment in China, especially the characteristics of Naltrexone Implant, a newly developed special drug for drug rehabilitation and relapse prevention. During the communication and exchanges, the two sides consulted to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism.

During his visit to US, Professor Hao Wei was invited to give a special lecture entitled “Self-identification of Psychological Problems and How to Respond” to the staff of the Chinese Embassy in US, and answered their inquiries about psychological problems.
