On April 19, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed in the United States between Xiangya Hospital Central South University (CSU) and BD for jointly building an advanced medical innovation center. Mao Weiming, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province, witnessed the milestone moment on-site. Chen Xiang, Managing Vice President of CSU and Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, CSU, was present at the signing ceremony.
BD is a medical technology company with a history spanning 126 years, as one of America’s Fortune 500 companies and the top 5 leaders in the global medical device industry. From April 16 to 19, Mao Weiming led a delegation from Hunan to the United States. He visited the headquarters of BD and exchanged with Ami (Doshi) Simunovich, Vice President of BD. Zhang Xin, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Xiangya Hospital CSU, signed the MOU with Li Ping, Vice President (Government Affairs) of BD Greater China.
Based on the MOU, the both sides are committed to a collaborative effort aimed at accelerating the development and industrialization of core medical device technologies. This partnership will not only enhance the quality of medical laboratory examinations in Hunan but also boost the competitiveness of medical teams in the region. Mao Weiming expected BD to leverage its advanced technologies, skilled experts, and abundant resources to emerge as a “leading force” in the industry. He envisioned BD to play a pivotal role in the establishment of a national medical center in Hunan, attracting other companies within the industrial ecosystem to the region. Through this collaboration, Mao Weiming anticipated the sharing of resources, joint project construction, collaborative and innovative research, and joint expert training. Mao also said that Hunan will be dedicated to creating a world-class industrial ecosystem for the development of biomedicine continuously, and he cordially invited BD to establish a medical device innovation center, an R&D center, and a commercialization platform for its findings in Hunan.
