The natureindex.com of Springer Nature recently updated the “Nature Index” ranking for 2019 (statistic period: 2018.12.1-2019.11.30), which comprehensively evaluates the high-level paper output by various countries/regions, scientific research institutes, universities and industrial institutions around the world. The ranking shows that Xiangya Hospital of Central South University ranks fourth in the domestic medical institutions, and 73rd (from 84th two months ago) in the world’s top 100, and is the only hospital in Hunan on the list.
The Natural Index analysis is based on the calculation and statistics of the number of research papers published by scientific research institutions in 82 high-quality natural science journals such as Nature, Science and Cell in the past 12 months. The Natural Index is an important indicator for evaluating high-level output of scientific research institutions, and also provides absolute numbers and shares of papers published by institutions and countries, so it can show the global high-quality scientific research output and cooperation.
In recent years, in accordance with the “Double-First Class (world-class university and first-class disciplines)” overall strategy and under the guidance of the core goal of building a world-class clinical medicine discipline, Xiangya Hospital has made comprehensive planning and careful layout focusing on “big vision, good atmosphere, large platform, large team, large project, great achievements, and great contribution”, adhered to the connotative construction and international strategy, further improved the discipline construction system, talent training system and technological innovation system, and continued to promote the construction of a world-class hospital with Xiangya characteristics that people are satisfied with.
At present, Xiangya Hospital has four national-level scientific research platforms, including the International Joint Research Center for Medical Metabolomics, the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (Xiangya), the State-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Anti-cancer Drugs, and the International Research Center for Equipment and Standards of National Endoscopic Minimally Invasive Surgery Technique. The Hospital has always attached great importance to the cultivation and development of talents. In the past 5 years, there were 1 person granted with the Changjiang (Yangtze River) Scholar Award by the Ministry of Education, 1 person listed in the National Ten Thousand Talent Program by the Ministry of Science and Technology, 4 persons granted with the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, 3 persons listed in the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, and 1 person listed in the Young Top-Notch Talent of the National Ten Thousand Talent Program. The number of the projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has exceeded 100 for three consecutive years, and ranked in the top three in China in 2019. The awarded funds for scientific research have exceeded RMB100 million for 4 consecutive years, and reached RMB240 million in 2019, including RMB58 million from the NSFC.
It is reported that in addition to the annual increase in the “Natural Index” ranking, Xiangya Hospital ranked second and third respectively among China's medical institutions in the medical science field and life science field in terms of the scientific and educational collaborative integration index of China's medical institutions in 2019(issued by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China).
