CSU Promotes Interschool Cooperation to Accelerate Internationalization of Graduate Education

During the period from December 7 - 14, 2019, Zhu Xuehong, Vice President of Central South University (CSU) and his delegation of teachers from the Graduate School, the School of Metallurgy and Environment, the School of Civil Engineering, and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges visited Pohang University of Science and Technology in South Korea, Kyushu University and Kyoto University in Japan etc. They had in-depth communications on interschool cooperation, including the graduate education and exchange of teachers and students, and reached initial intentions of cooperation by signing the bilateral memorandum.

During the visit to Pohang University of Science and Technology in South Korea, the delegation had deep conversations and established the primary intent to cooperate on the exchange of graduates and some scientific fields including metallurgy and machinery. Then the delegation visited the library and the laboratory ofGIFTResearch Center.

At Kyushu University in Japan, the delegation had friendly consultations and reached agreement on the details of MOU and the exchange of graduates, reaching a consensus on strategic cooperation in the field of engineering between CSU and Kyushu University.

During the visit toKyoto University in Japan, the delegation hadcommunicationsand discussions on such issues as exchange of teachers and staff, joint scientific research, and joint cultivation of graduates. Both sides have high expectations for further cooperation.

In recent years, CSU keeps promoting the internationalization of graduate education, focuses on cultivating the top innovative talents with international competence, and strives to become one of the "double first-class" universities. CSU has organized and implemented the International Competency Improvement Program for Graduates, which covers the funding project forthe graduates in school to study abroad, the funding project for graduates to attend the high-level international academic conferences, and the recruitment of overseas well-known experts and scholars to jointly set up the international graduate programs, so as to build a diversified international graduate exchange platform.

In terms of supporting the graduates in school to study abroad, CSU supported 300 graduates for overseas academic visits for 3-12 months in 2019. Up to now, 251 students have visited more than 10 countries and regions, including US, Australia, Canada, UK, Japan, Singapore etc. In terms of supporting graduates to attend high-level international academic conferences, 141 students applied for funding to attend conferences in 2019. So far, 100 students have been invited to US, Japan, South Korea, Canada and other countries or regions to attend conferences. In 2020, CSU will keep implementing the International Competency Improvement Program for Graduates.
