On Sep. 10 – 11, the ceremony for appointment of overseas supervisors for the “Wisdom Gathering and Talent Cultivating Program” of the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and academic seminar was held in the Lecture Hall on the second floor of the Surgery Building. As representatives of the first batch of supervisors recruited from overseas, 5 professors from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and Ohio State University College of Medicine were present at the ceremony. Chen Xiang, the Vice President of CSU, also attended the ceremony.
To implement the spirit of the 19thNational Congress of the Communist Party of China, respond to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s call for talent cultivation and actively promote CSU’s “Double First-class” construction, the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University initiates the “Wisdom Gathering and Talent Cultivating Program”. “Wisdom Gathering” means attracting well-known scholars from international first-class universities and research institutions to provide intellectual support for cultivation of young talents. “Talent Cultivating” means cultivating outstanding young talents with profound patriotism, broad international vision and prominent academic competence by establishing a sustainable and effective talent cultivation system. Through implementation of the program, the Third Xiangya Hospital wishes to inject new vitality to its brand construction and sustainable development, and lift to a new level its discipline construction and talent team construction by building key disciplines and cultivating tip-top talents.
All the 17 overseas supervisors recruited by the Third Xiangya Hospital are professors from international first-class universities, including 1 fellow of National Academy of Medicine. Different from normal supervisors, overseas supervisors are mainly responsible for providing joint training for postgraduates studying abroad and young teachers of CSU, cultivating outstanding young scholars by virtue of international first-class research platforms and promoting the output of high-level academic papers.
The representative of overseas supervisors made a speech at the appointment ceremony and extended thanks to CSU and those who have contributed to the cooperation. He said that the “8-year Overseas Joint Training Program” initiated by the Third Xiangya Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has achieved good results and benefited both parties, and expressed his wish to further explore similar cooperative programs and open up a new prospect for win-win cooperation.
Chen Xiang fully affirmed the initiative of “wisdom gathering and talent cultivating” by the Third Xiangya Hospital and encouraged the doctoral candidates and postgraduates under the “8-year Overseas Joint Training Program” present to keep in mind the Xiangya spirit of “Being just and courageous, diligent and prudent, honest and humane, modest and upright; pursuing truth and accuracy and seeking for professionalism” and seize the opportunities to learn exquisite technologies, humanistic quality and scholarly research spirit from foreign experts. He expressed his wish that more Xiangya students can overcome difficulties to make outstanding academic achievements, make contributions to the construction of Xiangya and realize self-development.
A series of activities were held in the two days, including appointment ceremony for overseas supervisors, academic seminar, round-table discussion and academic forums of various disciplines.
