Chinese Varsity Collaborates With ABU On Joint Degree Programme

The Central South University of China (CSU) has collaborated with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on a new undergraduate degree programme which will be the first of it kind in Nigeria.

The degree which is called ‘3+2’ will have students spend three years with ABU and go to CSU in China to spend two years.

The Vice chancellor of ABU, Professor Ibrahim Garba revealed this yesterday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy call on the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Zhon Pingjim and the managing director of China Civil Engineering Company (CCECC), Mr Jack Li to appreciate the company and the government of China for their continuous support to Nigeria and growth of the university.

Garba said: “3+2 is a type of degree, meaning that a typical engineering degree which take five years, students will spend three years in ABU and go to CSU in China and spend two years. The purpose of that collaboration is the fact that the CSU university in China is famous for railway engineering so the entire purpose is to build a future railway engineers in Nigeria.

According to him, CCECC has graciously given full scholarship to 30 students for the two years that they are going to do in China and the university in China has also added another 15 scholarships of those students, taking it to 45.

The Ambassador who was represented by the Minster Councillor, Mr Lin Jing said the relationship between Nigeria and China has already recorded tremendous success. According to him, the Abuja rail way which is the first of its kind in the country is just one of the ways China government is ensuring that the relationship is keep.

He said the collaboration in the field of education is very important as it nurture longer generation of leadership.
