The First Prize of the 32nd World Youth Go Championship Won by Li Weiqing from Affiliated Middle School of CSU

On August 26, after fourdays of intense competition, the 32nd World Youth Go Championship held in Harbinended. Li Weiqing from Affiliated Middle School of CSU, on behalf of China,took part in the championship, defeated many players from Germany, the UnitedStates, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and other countries one after another, andwon the youth team (under the age of 16) championship with seven victories.

 

It is reported that World Youth GoChampionship, known as “the Cradle of World Champions”, is the oldest worldwidego championship. 23 young players from 10 countries and regions, such as China,Korea, Japan, Germany and the United States participated in the competition.All of them were outstanding players through rounds of selection in the preliminariesof their own countries.

 

Li Weiqing, born in April, 2000, hassuccessively studied at the First Attached Primary School and Affiliated MiddleSchool of CSU. His specialty training of go in an early age endowed him withthe following achievements: the second prize in the go game of Championship forthe Primary and Secondary School Students in Hunan Province and qualificationsfor Amateur Grade 5 of Go ( the youngest amateur 5 in Hunan Province then) at7; the first prize of the 10-year-old men’s LiWeiqing Won 1stPrize of “32nd WorldYouth Go Championship”

team in the National Youth ChessCompetitions at 9; qualifications for Professional Grade 1 with the first prizein the National Go Promotion at 13; enrollment into the China’s National YouthTeam of Go at 13 and its member up to now.
