Speaker: Prof. Luka Neralic, University of Zagreb

Time: Jun 2nd, Thu. 3:00-4:30 PM

Address: F2 Administration Building, Main Campus

Synopsis:

I will talk about results on the efficiency of 127 selected towns in the Republic of Croatia using categorical models of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The towns, represented as Decision Making Units (DMUs), are characterized into four categories according to their respective populations. Using the number of employed workers and employed assets as inputs and income as an output, we consider a categorical input-oriented (output-oriented) model with constant (variable)  returns-to-scale. I will present and  analyse computational results  on efficiency of the towns. I will also talk on the dynamic relative efficiency of 12 selected towns in the Republic of Croatia using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The selected towns, represented as Decision Making Units (DMUs), are those among the 127 towns in Croatia having a population of at least 45,000. Using the same inputs and output, WindowAnalysis is considered for the period 2004–2009 for an input-oriented (output-oriented) DEA model with constant (variable) returns to scale. I will also present and analyze computational results on the dynamic relative efficiency of the towns.

Biography:

Luka Neralic  is a Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb, Croatia. He was a visiting scholar in 1985/86 at the University of Texas at Austin, USA, under Prof. A. Charnes, using a Fulbright grant for his postdoctoral study in Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Areas of his research interests are DEA, Linear Programming, Parametric Programming, Multi-objective Programming, Sensitivity and Stability Analysis with applications in economics. His first research results  in sensitivity and stability analysis in DEA are contained in joint papers with Prof. A. Charnes published in Glasnik Matematicki and EJOR. He has published 3 text books (in Croatian), 4 scientific papers in books, 29 in peer-reviewed journals and 22 in conference proceedings. He has presented 54 papers at international scientific conferences and 13 papers at domestic scientific meetings. He is co-editor of the Central European Journal for Operations Research (2007 to date) and associate editor of the Data Envelopment Analysis Journal (2011 to date). He is also a member of the editorial board of the Croatian Operational Research Review (CRORR).
