Iain Gillespie, Principal at the University of Dundee, Visits Central South University with His Delegation

On April 10, Principal Iain Gillespie, Vice-Principal (Research) Lisanne Gibson and Vice-Principal (Education) Blair Grubb at the University of Dundee, UK visited Central South University (CSU). Fordyce Davidson, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Dundee, and Zhi Qiu Finlay, Director of China at the University of Dundee, were also on the visit to CSU. Yi Hong, Secretary of CPC Committee of CSU, Guo Xueyi, Vice President at CSU and leaders of relevant CSU departments attended the meeting in the Third Conference Room of the Science and Education Building.

CSU entered into partnership with the University of Dundee in 2009. The Dundee International Institute of Central South University (DIICSU) was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in 2021. It started to enroll students in 2022 and launched five undergraduate programs, namely Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Computing Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering with Transportation.

Yi Hong highlighted that it is the joint efforts that contribute to the establishment and smooth operation of the DIICSU and the Institute is developing steadily. CSU endeavors to elevate its education to an international standard, and the University of Dundee is a key partner in this endeavor. The both sides have exchanged on scientific and technological cooperation, and master’s programs for new collaboration, based on the undergraduate programs offered by the DIICSU. CSU is open to more extensive and deeper cooperation, expecting the both sides to reach consensus through communication and write a new chapter for educational exchanges and collaboration.

Iain Gillespie reaffirmed his determination to deepen the cooperation between the two universities. He emphasized that the University of Dundee highly values the education, the development of students’ global insights and campus activities. Therefore, the Principal was looking forward to deeper cooperation with CSU in joint postgraduate programs, short-term student exchange programs, and scientific research and its application. Besides, he expected to launch new programs, especially Life Science, Medical Science and Dentistry, at the DIICSU. Iain Gillespie indicated the University of Dundee's willingness to continue, deepen, expand and stabilize its win-win cooperation with CSU.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed specific topics and reached a preliminary agreement on launching joint postgraduate programs and short-term student exchange programs, and enhancing cooperation in scientific research.

During the visit, Li Jiancheng, President of CSU, met with Iain Gillespie and his delegation. The delegation also exchanged with relevant leaders on specific topics of cooperation while visiting the Xiangya School of Nursing, the School of Basic Medical Science, the Business School, the DIICSU, and the Key Laboratory of Traffic Safety on Track Ministry of Education.
