On Sep. 29, the Great Hall of the People witnessed the prize-awarding ceremony of Chinese Government Friendship Award 2017. Prof. Frieder Seible, an honorary doctorate of Central South University, honorary professor of the School of Civil Engineering, member of the National Academy of Engineering, fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and foreign academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, won the award and was invited to the ceremony. Zhang Jianguo, Director of State Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs P. R. China, declared the award decision; Ma Kai, a member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, presented the trophies to the foreign experts and made a speech.
On Oct. 1, President Tian Hongqi met with Prof. Frieder Seible and his wife in Changsha. She congratulated him on the wining of the Chinese Government Friendship Award and appreciated his efforts for the cooperation with Central South University in the long term. Besides, President Tian Hongqi proposed an enhanced cooperation between Prof. Frieder Seible and CSU, to promote the “Double First-class” Construction of CSU. Zhou Kechao, Vice President of CSU, attended the meeting, along with the principals of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the School of Civil Engineering.
Chinese Government Friendship Award, established in 1991 by State Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs with the authorization of China State Council, is the highest honorary award for the foreign experts who have made outstanding contribution to China’s modernization, and 50 winners are elected every year. It is reported that the 50 foreign experts for this year are from 21 countries
