Professor Hao Wei, a famous doctor of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, is elected as First Vice-president of INCB

News - On May 16, at the 119th conference of International Narcotics Control Board (hereinafter referred to as “INCB”) held in Vienna, Professor Hao Wei, a famous doctor of Mental Health Research Institute of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University was elected as First Vice-president of INCB.

INCB was founded in 1968 according to Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs in 1961 and is an independent international narcotics control organization of semi-judicial nature. Its aims are to prompt the implementation of relevant conventions of U.N. on narcotics, propel all countries to observe relevant provisions of all conventions and assist contracting nations to work in this aspect. Being recommended by the WHO in 2015, Professor Hao Wei was elected as a member of INCB in 2015, with the tenure till 2020; subsequently, he was elected as Vice-chair of INCB Standing Committee on Estimates in 2016 and First Vice-president of INCB in 2017.

Professor Hao Wei is an expert in psychiatry and addiction medical field and incumbent Chairman of Chinese Association of Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment (Grade I association). He is also a member of Expert Group of WHO Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Director of WHO Addictive Behavior and Health Cooperation Center and a member of Work Group of International Mental Disorder Classification and Diagnosis. He once served as Chairman of Chinese Psychiatrist Association. Psychiatry (Edition 4-7th) under his editorship is the most influential school book in psychiatry field. In the past five years, Professor Hao Wei and his team had made great achievements in the research on addictive behaviors, wining 12 international projects and 6 national-level projects. He published more than 300 papers (more than 60 in the SCI journal) as the first author and corresponding author and participated in the compilation of 25 books as editor-in-chief. He has significant influence in research of national epidemiology, abstinence herbs, and rehabilitation after detoxification as well as biologic mechanism of addiction both at home and abroad.
