President Zhang Yaoxue Held a Meeting with Wu Baina, British Ambassador to China

On the afternoon of October 19, CSU President Zhang Yaoxue held a meeting with Dame Wu Baina (Barbara Woodward), British Ambassador to China, who was to attend “2016 Sino-British Forum on Medical Services Based on the Combination of Medical Care and Elderly Care (MSIC2016)” at Xiangya Hospital. The two sides exchanged opinions and views on cooperation in the fields of combination of medical care and elderly care, big medical data, public health, etc.

President Zhang Yaoxue said that Xiangya was an essential part of CSU, which enjoyed a high reputation in China, so CSU would give full support to the cooperative project on combination of medical care and elderly care between Xiangya Hospital and Britain. Dame Wu Baina said that China and Britain were faced with the same difficulties in the aging society, for instance more elderly people and miscellaneous diseases. She was pleased that Hospital of Northumbria and Xiangya Hospital established cooperative partnership, and she hoped that the two sides could share experience and operational approach in the future and that it could be a start of long-term cooperation in medical treatment development between Britain and Xiangya Hospital. She still said that Academician Zhang Yaoxue was an expert in big data, a great benefit to the following cooperation between the two sides.


President Zhang Yaoxue agreed with Dame Wu Baina. He added that we should pay more attention to exchanges of and discussions on procedures, details, experience, etc. in the era of mobile internet, that we should attach the same importance to life despite of different cultures and systems, and that the social significance of Sino-British cooperative project on the combination of medical care and elderly care was more important than the project itself. He expected that the cooperation could provide a template for future development of other related fields.


Dame Wu Baiba believed that the “Sino-British Forum on Medical Services Based on the Combination of Medical Care and Elderly Care” could deepen and widen the cooperation between the two sides and bring tangible results to people of Hunan and Britain.


Such people as Matthew Rous, Consul-General of the British Consulate in Guangzhou, Rachel Ainley, Senior Policy Official of Medical and Social Service Office of British Embassy in China, Liu Ming, Chief Representative of Science, Technology and Innovation Office of British Consulate in Guangzhou, Tan Lulu, Senior Regional Liaison Officer (Hunan) of British Consulate in Guangzhou, Qiu Aihua, Deputy Director of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Hunan Province, Chen Xiang, Vice President of CSU, Xiao Ping, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xiangya Hospital, Sun Hong, Dean of Xiangya Hospital also attended the meeting.
