On 22 May, the Western Australia Workshop on Mining Investment Promotion & Building a Mining Financing Center was held at the Songyun International Academic Center of CSU. Gao Wenbing, Party Secretary of CSU, Song Ruixiang, President of Geological Society of China, Qiu Guanzhou, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering （CAE）, Zhu Xuehong, Vice President of CSU, and Huang Jianbai, Director of the Metal Resources Strategic Research Institute of CSU, attended the meeting.
The meeting was about the topics of Western Australia’s mining investment recommendation and building a mining finance center.
Gao Li, Director of the International Cooperation Department of Mines and Petroleum of the Government of Western Australia, introduced the situation of mining investment in Western Australia, and made a detailed presentation on the geographical and geological environment for geological survey and development of mineral resources, local laws, regulation and management systems concerning mines, Western Australia’s support for foreign exploration companies and mining industry as well as local mineral resources and investment and development opportunities. He also provided advice on mining investment from the perspectives of due diligence, evaluation and information channel.
Zhan Shu, Advisor to Mining Association of Hunan, stressed the urgency to build a mining finance center in China, saying that with strengths in mining, economy, geography, investment & financing, government promotion, talent and R&D, international exchanges and cooperation as well as third-party service Changsha can effectively deliver the five major functions of a mining finance center, including conglomeration, exchange, promotion, service and supervision.
At the section of free exchanges, Academician Qiu Guanzhou appreciated Dr. Gao Li and Zhan Shu for their excellent speeches. Party Secretary Gao Wenbing had a discussion with participating experts on three issues of China’s market for mineral resources, economics platform for mineral resource and legislation concerning mineral resources, and expressed his support for the building of economic discipline of mineral resources. Song Ruixiang, President of Geological Society of China, said that the vision of building Changsha into a mining finance center cannot be put into practice without the support of the government and focusing on the development of interdisciplinary talents is the right choice.
The meeting, which was organized by Mining Association of Hunan and attended by 50-plus heads of government departments, enterprises and public institutions, provides a high-level platform for exchanges among specialists and practitioners from mining and relevant fields.
