South America is birthplace of EVAR technique. As an important member of the BRICS countries, Brazil plays an important role in the international community of vascular surgery. The CICE, which takes place in Brazil on an annual basis, has become one of the largest academic conferences on vascular surgery in the world.

Guided by the Belt and Road Initiative, China is engaged in comprehensive economic cooperation with emerging market countries in Latin America. Besides, various technological and academic exchanges are on the rise. Chinese vascular surgery specialists, represented by Professor Shu Chang, are highly active in the international academia of vascular surgery. The international academia marvels at Shu Chang's rich experience and excellent surgical performance. His team was often invited to foreign countries for the sharing of Chinese experience, which not only demonstrates the forefront of international vascular surgery development but also attracts groups of foreign doctors to learn from him.

It is learned that, a delegation of senior vascular surgeons from South American countries (mainly from Brazil) visited the 2nd Xiangya Hospital to learn from their Chinese counterparts in May and August 2016. South American experts spoke highly of Professor Shu Chang and his vascular surgery team for their demonstration and live broadcasting of several EVAR operations and sharing of surgical skills.
