2016 China’s aid Program to Sierra Leone Comes to a Successful End

On the morning of December 5, local time in Sierra Leone, the completion of the last operation marked the end of 2016 China’s aid Program to Sierra Leone. During the program, the medical group from the Second Xiangya Hospital offered medical aid to Sierra Leone, and the Second Xiangya Hospital and the local ophthalmic hospital preliminarily established their cooperative mechanism.

 

The program lasted for nearly 20 days. Many local people with eye diseases heard about itthrough media  and came to the China-Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital where the medical group stayed for treatment under the organization of the Ministry of Health in Sierra Leone. In the China-Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital, the medical group rebuilt ophthalmology wards and examining rooms, assembled ophthalmic surgical equipment, and set up the ophthalmology operating room. The group carried out examination of cataract for more than 1500 people, treated over 300 people with eye diseases, performed cataract surgeries on over 200 people, including 1 with AIDS. Meanwhile, the group carried out intensive exchanges with local ophthalmic hospitals and doctors, as well as organized large-scale training.
