On the morning of January 8, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held the 2018 National Science and Technology Awards Conference in Beijing. Party and state leaders attended the conference and presented awards to the winners. After review by the professional review teams of each discipline, the evaluation committee and the award committee, the National Science and Technology Awards in 2018 were given to 278 projects and 7 scientific and technological experts.

Ten scientific research achievements of CSU won the 2018 National Science and Technology Award, covering geophysics, rail transit, surveying and mapping, metallurgy, mineral processing, clinical pharmacology and other disciplines. Of them, 7 are completed by CSU as the first completion unit, 3 are completed under the joint effort with CUS. The total number of awards ranks the fourth among national universities, and the number of awards as the first completion unit ranks the first among national universities.

The "Depth, High-precision, Wide-area Electromagnetic Exploration Technology and Equipment" project led by Academician He Jishan won the first prize of the National Technology Invention Award. He Jishan’s team invented the wide-area electromagnetic method and technological equipment and engineering system for high-precision electromagnetic exploration, established the curved wave-centered electromagnetic exploration theory, and constructed a holographic electromagnetic exploration technology system; with these achievements, deep, precise and accurate exploration could be realized and the "deep earth resource" strategic needs could be satisfied. This green, efficient and low cost exploration technology has been successfully promoted and applied in China and achieved the remarkable economic and social effects; it is a true “Chinese model” for deep exploration and provides technical support for ensuring national resources and energy security.

The CSU Rail Transit Aerodynamics and Collision Safety Technology Innovation Team won the National Science and Technology Progress (Innovation Team) Award, the first one for CSU in this award. The team explored the direction of China's rail transit aerodynamics and train collision dynamics; built the first 500 km/h high-speed train aerodynamic performance dynamic model test system, and the only international orbital real vehicle collision/force test system; and constructed the Qinghai-Tibet Railway windstorm monitoring and early warning command system, and completed the aerodynamic shape design of the first high-speed train and the energy absorption design of the first collision-resistant train in China. Multiple technologies have filled the gaps at home and abroad, all of which are used for high-speed railways such as Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, high-altitude railways on the plateau, and high-speed railways such as Fuxing as well as trains exported to the United States, and have made important contributions to the development of China's high-speed rail.

The project entitled “Novel Tungsten Smelting Technology based on Sulfur-Phosphorus Mixed Acid Synergetic Leaching”, which was presided over by Professor Zhao Zhongwei, won the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award. Zhao Zhongwei’s team invented the technology of synergistic decomposition of tungsten ore by sulfur-phosphorus mixed acid system, realizing high-efficiency continuous leaching under normal pressure conditions, and the leaching slag can be used as building material filler. The team adopted "high temperature leaching-low temperature acid supplementation" to control the crystal separation of tungsten, realizing leaching mother liquor circulation and solving the problem of wastewater discharge. The technology of highly selective extraction of molybdenum cation was invented, which realized the simple separation of tungsten and molybdenum and solved the problem of molybdenum recovery. The complete set of technology has been successfully applied in the China's largest and the world’s largest tungsten smelting enterprise, Xiamen Tungsten Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary Malipo Haiyu Tungsten Industry Co., Ltd., reducing processing costs by more than 30%.

The project entitled “Key Technology for Refining Multi-metal Waste Acid Recycling”, which was presided over by Professor Chai Liyuan, won the second prize of National Technology Invention Award. Based on the major demand of pollution control and resource utilization in China, the project aimed at maximizing resources and minimizing pollution, and invented multi-metal gas-liquid vulcanization separation in waste acid, selective adsorption and enrichment of trace rare metals, and high concentration chlorofluorocarbon deep purification and acid concentration and reuse and other key technologies, creatively forming the overall process of waste acid resource management. For the first time in the world, the high-efficiency separation of multi-metals in waste acid has been achieved. The recovery rate of copper-zinc-bismuth is higher than 96%, and the hazardous waste is reduced by 90% or above. It has been applied in more than ten leading smelting enterprises in China and listed in the Catalogue of Major Environmental Protection Technology and Equipment Encouraged by the State, which has realized the green reform of waste acid treatment and has broad application prospects.

The project entitled “Tungsten Fluorine Phosphate Calcium-Bearing Strategic Mineral Resources Flotation Interface Assembly Technology and Application”, which was presided over by Professor Hu Yuehua, won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. The project aimed to solve the worldwide problem of flotation separation of calcium-bearing minerals such as tungsten ore, phosphate ore and fluorite. With interface chemistry as the core, through the systematic basic research, the project has developed new methods for selective collector assembly, developed ore dressing technology and ore dressing wastewater utilization technology matched to the resource characteristics. A new theory and new technology system for the efficient utilization of tungsten, fluorine and phosphorus calcium-bearing strategic resources was formed, and the problem of low utilization rate and wastewater reuse of complex tungsten ore, phosphate ore and high calcium fluorite resources was solved. The newly added sales amount in the past three years was RMB 14.391 billion, and the newly added profit was RMB 2.992 billion, which effectively promoted the technological progress of the industry.

The project entitled “InSAR Millimeter-scale Surface Deformation Monitoring Key Technology and Application”, presided over and completed by Professor Zhu, won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. The project has established a complete set of technology and software system for InSAR millimeter-scale surface deformation monitoring and engineering application with independent intellectual property rights; this system enables the development of InSAR surface deformation monitoring technology in complex environments such as mining areas, coastal areas and landslide areas, a great improvement in support and service capability for spatial information such as disaster prevention and mitigation in China. It is applied to the National Advanced Technology Photovoltaic Demonstration Base and the world’s antimony city Lengshuijiang, which guarantees the safe implementation of national key projects and the safety of people’s lives and property in mining areas; and it is applied to land, mines, electric power and other industries in the Pearl River Delta, Chongqing, Anhui and other places, and has solved the problem that cannot be solved by traditional means.

The project entitled "Strategy, Product and Promotion for Pharmacogenomics-based Individualized Treatment of Hypertension", which was presided over by Academician Zhou Hongxi, won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. The project, for the first time, confirmed and systematically elucidated the new genetic mechanism of anti-hypertensive drug response race and individual differences, and pioneered the field of pharmacogenomics in China. It developed the first test kit to guide the genotyping of individualized drugs for hypertension, and established the individualized treatment strategy of hypertension based on pharmacogenomics. The transformational medical system of "theoretical research-product development-education training-promotion application" was established, and the characteristics of individualized treatment based on pharmacogenomics were formed. The "Hypertension Individualized Drug Gene Detection Kit", which was developed by the project, successfully realized transformation and created a profit of RMB 100 million for the enterprise. A series of project-related researches initiated the individualized treatment based on pharmacogenomics in China, making China's pharmaceutical genomics research and application at the world's leading level.

Among the award-winning projects that CSU participated in, the project entitled “Functional Imaging Brain Connection Mechanism and Machine Learning”, in which Professor Yao Shuqiao was involved, won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, and project entitled “Electronic Waste Green Recycling Key Technologies and Industrialization” led by Professor Guo Xueyi and the project entitled “Zinc Clean Smelting and Efficient Utilization Key Technologies and Equipment” completed by Professor Liu Zhihong won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.
