A Delegation from Health Sciences University of Hokkaido (Japan) Visits Central South University

On July 4-7, a delegation from Health Sciences University of Hokkaido in Japan visited Central South University. The delegation includes Dr. Ohru Ohta, Director of the Center for Individual Differences Research, School of Rehabilitation, and Dr. Keiji Sato, Associate Professor of the School of Stomatology.

In the morning of July 6, the talks between the two universities were held in Room 308 of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges. Mr. Gao Dongbo, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, met the guests on behalf of the university. He briefly introduced the basic situation of Central South University and deepened the impression of foreign guests on the university with the video of “Central South in the ages”. Dr. Sato gave a comprehensive introduction of Health Sciences University of Hokkaido from the aspects of the structure, the School of Stomatology, the importance of international exchanges, the international exchange programs, and the scenery in Hokkaido.Health Sciences University of Hokkaido, established in 1974, has approximately 3,800 students. The main disciplines include: School of Pharmacy, School of Stomatology, School of Nursing & Social Services, School of Psychology, School of Rehabilitation and College of Medical Technology, as well as University General Hospital. He highlighted the situation of the School of Stomatology: the duration of the undergraduate program is 6 years, and the enrollment scale is 60 students per year. The School of Stomatology has specially set up training courses for overseas researchers, and uses robot patients to do practice simulation exercises, which is very effective. He said that Health Sciences University of Hokkaido had been vigorously carrying out international exchanges in the past five years. Currently, Health Sciences University of Hokkaido has conducted international exchanges with partner universities via international conferences, selection of Japanese students to conduct clinical internships abroad, summer school programs for overseas students, and special programs for doctors (overseas cooperative college students will enjoy tuition-free treatment), etc., which has greatly enhanced the international exchange level of the university. The attendants to the talks also included Dean Kun Xia and Professor Desheng Liang from the School of Life Sciences.

Dr. Ohru Ohta and Dr. Keiji Sato conducted an academic exchange with the Medical Genetics Center of the School of Life Sciences during the visit. Dr. Tohru Ohta made a speech entitled "Epigenetics and behavior: Oxtr related behavior in mouse is affected with partial imprinted expression of the gene in olfactory bulb". He also visited the genetic laboratory and the campus of Xiangya School of Medicine, and held talks with the relevant persons in charge of the School of Life Sciences on cooperation matters.
