2019 Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship (Silk Road Program) in Central South University
Master degree candidates: 3 years; All students must earn required credits, pass all the exams and finish the oral defence of their dissertations before they can receive graduation certificates. After the diploma review, diplomas will be granted.
Doctor degree candidates: 4 years; All students must earn required credits, pass all the exams and finish the oral defence of their dissertations before they can receive graduation certificates. After the diploma review, diplomas will be granted.

3. Scholarship Coverage
Coverage of tuition, accommodation, and medical insurance; monthly stipend of 3000 RMB for master students, and 3500 RMB for doctoral students.
Funding duration is the study duration determined at the time of enrollment.
1) Excellent Non-Chinese citizens, with no criminal records and in good health.
If a Chinese citizen applies for admission as a foreign student after immigration, he or she must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than four years, and within the last four years (up to April 30 of the year of admission), he or she shall have a record of living abroad for more than two years (the actual residence for nine months in a year can be calculated as one year). The calculation is based on entry and exit stamps.
2) For Master’s degree, applicants should have a bachelor degree or the equivalent and should be 18 to 35 years old; for Doctor’s degree, applicants should have a master’s degree or the equivalent and should be 18 to 40 years old.
3) Language requirement: a minimum score of 6 in IELTS or 85 in TOEFL. Those who meet one of the following conditions are exempt from proving their linguistic competence:
a) Applicants whose first language or the official language of the country is English.
b) Applicants who have taken a degree program in English.
4) Applicants shall have a strong academic background and innovative research capabilities.

Step 1: Online Application at the website of Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC)
Sign in and apply in the CSC website, Chinese Government Scholarship Information System https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/login
ChooseType B, and the Agency Number is 10533.
Step 2: Online application at the website of Central South University
Register and sign in CSU China International Student Service System:http://application.csu.edu.cn/member/login.do. Choose Chinese Government Scholarship and fill in the application form and submit it. THIS IS A MUST STEP!
Step 3: Pay the Application Fee and Mail Hardcopies of Material
After finishing Step 1 and Step 2, pay the application fee of 500 RMB (90 dollar) to the designated account and sent the following hard copies of materials IN DUPLICATE in the following order as soon as possible. Incomplete materials will not be accepted. The documents mentioned below shall be provided in English or Chinese. Documents in any other languages should be notarized in Chinese or English.
a) Printed Application form downloaded from CSU China International Student Service System with applicant’s name signed on it.
b) Printed Application form downloaded from Chinese Government Scholarship Information System with applicant’s name signed on it.
c) Photocopy of the passport (Over one-year availability).
d) Photocopy ofPhysical Examination Record for Foreigner with the blood test report. Applicants should strictly be examined as prescribed in the Record. Fill in the Record in English or Chinese. Incomplete form is regarded as invalid. The examination date shall be after January 1, 2019.
e) Certificates of highest education (Notarized copy). If the applicant is to be graduated in 2019, the pre-graduation certificate issued by school is required.
f) Transcripts of the highest education (Notarized copy).
g) Non-criminal record with an official stamp. The issue date shall be after January 1, 2019.
h) IELTS/TOEFL, or other documents to prove your linguistic competence.
j) Two recommendation letters from professors/associate professors with detailed contacts (Issuance date shall be after January 1, 2019).
k) Study Plan of no less than 800 words.
l) Published essays or any other supporting materials.
i) The photocopy of a remittance bill for application fee RMB 500 or USD 90. Write down the applicant name and application number (see in the Application form downloaded from CSU China International Student Service System).

Step 4: Application Completion and Final Result Release
According to the hardcopies of material and the application situation, the most excellent students will be enrolled, and the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form will be sent out before 31, July.
The admission result will be released in Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.
1) Registration starts from September annually and the exact time is specified according to the Admission Notice. A student who fails to register within the time prescribed without the permission of the University, will be regarded as giving up this opportunity.
2) Students who have obtained this scholarship cannot change the university, major, or study duration when enrolled.
3) The application fee and materials will not be returned regardless of admission results.
