    Undergraduate Program

     

    Program Introduction

    School of Law of CSU started to admit undergraduates in 1993. It emphasizes on quality education, encourages innovation awareness, and aims at producing talents with good academic capability, professional Law capability and international vision. Law, an applied science, must have an eye on society and respond to society. With the deepening of reform and opening up and the advance of rule of Law across the nation, a growing demand for Law education and Law talents is registered. Therefore, School of Law of CSU adheres to the concept of innovation and prioritize knowledge upgrading and teaching system innovation in undergraduate program, aiming at nurturing comprehensive professional Law talents. The teaching plan for undergraduates has been modified and improved further. Undergraduates are supposed to spend 4 years on learning and complete at least 188 credits before graduation. Credits can be obtained by taking different types of courses, including professional courses, hands-on practice courses, discipline education courses, etc. Compulsory professional courses and selective courses are positioned to consolidate students’ basic knowledge and encourage innovation.

    Education Objectives

    Law major aims at producing Law talents that meet the requirements of economic and social development. Law major focuses on teaching students basic theories and knowledge about Law, fosters students’ Law quality and culture of rule of Law, and plays stress on teaching and practice of Law practice skills, so that students can develop their abilities to apply what they learn to find problems, analyze and address them.

    Education Requirements

    1.Master the basic knowledge of Marxism and its application in China, adhere to four principles and develop Law spirit and good professional morality required by Law profession;

    2.Master the basic theories and knowledge of each Law subject, and foster the ability to apply Law knowledge to find, analyze and solve problems concerning Law;

    3.Be proficient in a foreign language and be familiar with professional Law in foreign language;

    4.Have basic knowledge about computers and can use computer proficiently;

    5.Develop strong body building, good character and strong duty awareness.

    Master program of Law started in 2000, when the school was granted to offer professional master degree in economic Law. In 2005, its master degree in Law was granted as the first-level discipline. In 2007, it was authorized to confer legal master. In December 2011, approved by Department of Education, Hunan Province, the Law discipline of CSU was named the key discipline for construction during the Twelfth Five-year Plan in Hunan Province.

    Master program in School of Law has 39 directions, including Jurisprudence, Legal History, Economic Law, Constitution Law and Administrative Law, International Law, the Intellectual Property Law, National Investment and State-Owned Enterprises Act, Private International Law, World Trade Organization Law, the Constitution Law, the Administrative Law, etc. Law discipline is flourishing with great vitality. Great achievements have been made in such directions as Economic Law, Constitution Law and Administrative Law as well as the Legal System. Jurisprudence is at the forefront in Hunan Province and enjoys distinctive advantages in research fields like the Sociology of Law and the Legal Ethics.

    Master program in School of Law aims to explore basic theories and knowledge about Law to cultivate professional talents with innovation awareness and capability to carry out Law research and practical work. It requires students to have solid foundation of Law basics and methodologies, develop academic interests in this field, and master some practical techniques like legal negotiation, legal consultancy, court debate.

    School of Law was approved to confer doctoral degree in Law in 2000. In 2000, the first round of doctoral students in the major of economic Law were recruited. In 2006, doctoral students studying the Administrative Law were first enrolled. In 2011, School of Law was granted to confer doctoral degree as a first-level discipline. In December 2011, approved by Department of Education, Hunan Province, the Law discipline of CSU was named the key discipline for construction during the 12th 5-year Plan in Hunan Province. In 2010, it presided over Annual Conference of China Economic Law Research Association demonstrating its strong influence in law field. 

    Law is a discipline demanding close combination of theories and practice. Law School, CSU is committed to nurture high-level professions with all-round development of morals, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and work. Rational knowledge structure and abilities to research and innovate are also prerequisites for a professional talent in Law.
